Day 21 - Shadow

For the word 'shadow', instead of going around my house and trying to find shadows, I wanted to create my own shadows using people. I got my sister to model and my mum was behind the scenes creating a shadow with her hand. The idea behind this shoot was to symbolise fear of the unknown. When we were younger, many of us may have been scared of the dark, or imagined that there were monsters in our bedroom. I wanted to portray that feeling through these images, and express the inner fear that we may be feeling, especially at a time like this during a pandemic. I told my sister, the model to cover her face with her hands to emphasise her fear, and I positioned the hand so that it covered part of the model, as if it were grabbing her. In editing, I made my images black and white and increased the contrast so that the overall outcome was darker. I think that this shoot was really successful as the shadows look eerie and frightening. I took inspiration from pinterest, as a few images on there stood out to me which helped to give me my idea.
