For day 16, we were given the term 'rule of thirds'. The rule of thirds is a compositional element that divides a photograph into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. For todays shoot, I used the grid setting on my camera so that I was sure that I followed the rule of thirds correctly. I photographed the sea and sky. In these images I like the way that the horizon sits in or near to the middle of the page, as the viewer is able to see that I have followed the rule of thirds correctly. To make my images more intriguing, I decided to edit them. In photoshop, I overlayed the buildings on top of one another to create a shadow effect. I also duplicated the amount of clouds in the sky and experimented using different filters. I really like how these photographs and edits turned out, as the outcomes almost look psychedelic. When I look at this shoot it reminds me of something that you would see in a dream; an alternate universe. I also made a moving image which shows the different perspectives of the landscape view. To a normal persons eye, the video would not stand out, however to a photographers eye, you are able to see all of the compositional elements within the short video, such as the rule of thirds. I made the moving image by taking many very short clips (around 0.5-1 second) and then using iMovie, I put all of the clips together to create a jumpy, live photo effect. After experimenting with the transitions, I added music; I chose a soft song without lyrics as it complemented the peaceful scenery that I was capturing in the video.
Some images that inspired my editing can be seen below:
