Structures

01

In my structures project I looked at linking portraiture with landscapes. I started off taking photos in Italy and then around my town. Then I looked at incorporating people into my work, using digital and practical methods of the double exposure effect. These are some of my favourite images of this project.

Gallery Visit: To start our architecture project, our photography class visited Southampton to look at Southampton City Art Gallery and The John Hansard Gallery. We were able to look at the art and photography and get inspiration for our structures and architecture project. We also walked around the town to capture some photos, particularly of pattern, texture and form. I think that this trip was very beneficial as it we were able to see examples of architecture photography.

Jim Nilson: The first photographer I looked at was Jim Nilson. He is a travel photographer that takes beautiful vibrant photos of the places that he visits. What I loved about his work was that it was colourful, which is captivating to the viewer as you are drawn to the different combinations of complementary and contrasting colour palettes in his images. My Florence shoot was inspired by Jim Nilson, as I tried to take vibrant, interesting and busy images like he does. However I found that my images focus more on texture than colour, however this is also an element that Jim Nilson looks at in his work.

Francesco Paleari: The second artist that I looked at was Francesco Paleari. Paleari's work is very different to Jim Nilsons as he likes to photograph people as well as structures, his work is also mostly in black and white. He uses the double exposure effect, which I was drawn to when researching this artist. I wanted to incorporate both of my artists into my final piece, so I decided to take Jim Nilsons ideas, making my own images vibrant and textural, then I was inspired by Francesco Paleari, therefore I took his ideas of incorporating people into my work.

Overall, I'm really happy with the outcome of all of my work and my final piece, and I hope you enjoy looking at my favourite images of this project.
