The first word we were given was 'You'. For this word I decided to take self portraits. I set up my camera on a tripod and used the technique of wrapping paper around my camera lens so that it created a circular shadow. Then I took my images and edited the colours to create an interesting effect. I brightened the images, then shaded the plain background in the colour that I thought would look best in each image. I really like the way the lighting portrays a sense of mystery, which in my opinion is really captivating to the viewer.
This is a picture from my shoot unedited. Although I really like the shadows that the light has created, I think that the image is too plain without adding colour, which in my opinion makes the outcome more interesting.

Here are my final results. These images took a lot of trail and error as it was hard to work the camera and be the model at the same time. If I were to do this shoot again, I would try to make the quality of the images better, as the dark lighting made this very hard to manage. Considering that self-portraiture is not one of my strong points and it is only the first day of 30 days of May, I think that these photos were successful, and would catch the viewers eye.

"In a sense, every work you do is a self portrait, because you work always reveals more about you than about your subject. Your experience of something itself is the true underlying subject of every work you do."
